Lewis Hamilton
Someone asked me back in March, just after the first race of the 2007 Formula 1 season, if Lewis Hamilton was all he was cracked up to be. Lets see shall we...

- First rookie to win, take pole position and set fastest lap in a McLaren
- Youngest driver to score pole, win, fastest lap hat-trick – Japan 2007
- Most points in a debut season – 109
- Most podiums in debut season – 12
- Most races led in debut season – 12
- Most pole positions in debut season – 6
- Most front row starts in debut season – 12
- Fastest driver to reach 100 career points (15 races)
- Most consecutive podiums from debut race – 9 (Australia-Britain 2007)
- Most consecutive points finishes from debut race – 9 (Australia-Britain 2007)
- Most consecutive number of races led from debut race – 7 (Australia-USA 2007)
- Youngest British driver to win in F1 – 22 years, 5 months, 3 days
- Youngest British driver to score pole position – 22 years, 5 months, 2 days
- Youngest British driver to register fastest lap – 22 years, 3 months, 1 day
- Youngest British driver to finish on podium – 22 years, 2 months, 11 days
- Youngest British driver to qualify on front row – 22 years, 3 months, 8 days
- Youngest British driver to lead a race – 22 years, 2 months, 11 days

Yeah. I'd say he's all he's cracked up to be. Wouldn't you?

Online sales
Here's a tip for anyone planning on setting up a website to sell something online: If you are going to launch something on a specific date at a specific time and know that you have, say, 200,000 of the item you are going to sell, it would be an exceptionally good idea to ensure that your bandwidth and server capacity are capable of handling this number of concurrent connections for a short period of time.

You are all weirdos
Just when you think you couldn't possibly witness anything more weird than you have already in your life you see a guy cycling through the City wearing what can only be described as a mini-kilt. Inclusive of sporran. Thankfully he was not being totally traditional and had, by way of undergarment, a pair of cycle tights.
Postal Strikes
It's being reported that one of the main sticking points on an agreement between the Post Office and the Union is the eight hour day. Current practise seems to be that your average postal worker does one of two things: They work eight hours and then go home, or they work until their personal workload is done and then go home early. Either way the employer pays eight hours. The post office is asking that workers complete eight hours even if they finish their own work early. They should, according to the Post Office, fill in the time by helping out colleagues in other areas so as to clear any backlog. Sounds reasonable to me, especially if it means I get the post that I've been waiting for since the strike began.

Comic Genius
Fridays in our office are wear-what-you-like days. Friday just gone I pulled out a t-shirt featuring the comic pairing of Morcambe and Wise - legends in the world of comedy. I had taken it for granted that they were widely known in the world and that others would appreciate and know who they were. I was slightly taken aback, then, when asked by an Australian who they were (the t-shirt does not bear their names, just the title of their signature song). I started quizzing others round the table to find that less people in the group of 15-20 than I have digits on my left hand knew who Eric and Ernie were, never mind any of their work. Time to find some new people to hang out with, I guess.

Rookie Champion
There has been a lot of talk in recent months that the Formula One World Drivers Championship title could be awarded to a rookie for the first time in the history of the Championship. Now I hate to be picky, but technically this isn't the case. Even if Lewis Hamilton does manage to score more than 8 points less than Fernando Alonso1 he will be the second rookie to win the title. You see Giuseppe Farina was the first since technically everyone was a rookie in the first year the Championship was officially a championship.
