Postal Strikes
It's being reported that one of the main sticking points on an agreement between the Post Office and the Union is the eight hour day. Current practise seems to be that your average postal worker does one of two things: They work eight hours and then go home, or they work until their personal workload is done and then go home early. Either way the employer pays eight hours. The post office is asking that workers complete eight hours even if they finish their own work early. They should, according to the Post Office, fill in the time by helping out colleagues in other areas so as to clear any backlog. Sounds reasonable to me, especially if it means I get the post that I've been waiting for since the strike began.
Sounds perfectly reasonable to me too... we did have to laugh at the placards on display outside of our local sorting office. "Protecting Public Service"
Seems to me that they are doing more damage than protection!
